Virtual Urgent Care is a service that allows you to talk with a health provider via video and phone about common medical symptoms. It’s easy to use and most insurance plans cover it.
Virtual Urgent Care is a convenient way to get medical advice and treatment for non-life-threatening symptoms that occur when your doctor’s office is closed or you can’t get an appointment with your primary care physician. During your telehealth visit, a provider will ask you about your symptoms and evaluate them over video chat. You will need a smartphone, tablet or computer; a reliable Internet connection; and a webcam or microphone for your device. Contact JetMED Orem -Virtual Urgent Care Orem for professional help.
During your virtual urgent care visit, the provider may order tests or refer you to a specialist if necessary. Depending on your symptoms, he or she will prescribe medication and provide instructions for care. The provider will also send a report to your primary care physician, if you have one.
In addition to diagnosing and treating common ailments, such as sprains, abdominal pain, ear infections, and urinary tract infections (UTIs), virtual urgent care visits can also help patients with other health concerns, including allergies, colds or the flu. They can even assess the severity of an asthma attack or provide recommendations for managing chronic conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes.
Virtual visits and telehealth services have been found to be more effective than traditional in-person care, especially for people living in remote areas or who are uninsured or have high insurance deductibles. They can also alleviate overcrowding at in-person healthcare facilities by funneling some of the demand for immediate medical attention away from emergency rooms and urgent care clinics, making room for those who need it most.
For example, a virtual urgent care visit for a UTI can usually be treated in the comfort of your own home with a simple urine test and prescription. The same is true for many skin problems, such as rash and acne, which can be evaluated in a virtual consult. The provider will ask you about your symptoms, assess them over video chat and recommend topical treatments or medications.
To schedule a virtual urgent care visit, download the NYP Connect app on your smartphone or computer and select “Virtual Urgent Care” from the menu. Visits are available seven days a week for adults and children. Medical emergencies that require an in-person evaluation or immediate action, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, choking, significant bleeding and stroke-related symptoms, cannot be treated during a Virtual Urgent Care appointment.
Diagnosis
Virtual Urgent Care offers a convenient way for adults and children to meet with a Geisinger doctor by video conference to diagnose or treat an illness or injury. This is called a telehealth visit, and it can be scheduled on our website or in the MyChart app. To schedule a visit for yourself or your child, login to MyChart and click Menu, then 24/7 Video Visit. Once you have an appointment, the system will ask for proxy access if necessary for a child under 13 years old or for a parent/guardian to join the visit for a child under 13.
The telehealth provider will review your symptoms and medical history and then conduct a physical exam. If necessary, a provider will order tests like blood or urine to get more information. Then, the doctor will make a diagnosis and send a treatment plan to your primary care doctor. In most cases, the visit will be completed in 15 minutes or less.
Before your telehealth visit, you should prepare by gathering any pertinent documentation, such as a list of your symptoms and any medications you are currently taking. It is also a good idea to select a quiet place where you will be free from distractions and can focus on your health needs. Also, check to see that you have a device with a camera and a stable internet connection. Also, make sure you will be able to communicate clearly with your doctor.
A telehealth visit can save you time and money. It is often covered by your insurance and it costs less than an in-person office visit or an urgent care visit. In some states, such as Colorado, telemedicine is even part of the regular healthcare system and is covered by all health plans.
The telehealth provider will be able to prescribe medication and the prescription can be sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy. This can be very useful when you are away from home and unable to get to your usual pharmacy or when you are on vacation. Your telehealth provider will also contact your local pharmacy to ensure that the correct medication is sent.
Treatment
Virtual care allows you to meet with a physician in a video conference from the comfort of home. You’ll talk to an AHN provider who will listen to your concerns, perform a physical exam and if necessary, order lab tests or send you to a specialist for further evaluation.
Virtual urgent care is available for many common health issues such as colds, flu and COVID-19, ear infections, stomach aches and other non-emergency conditions that require a medical professional but don’t require emergency room care. We do not treat conditions such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, significant bleeding or any other life-threatening issues.
For adult patients, you can schedule a visit through your MyChart app. Just click Menu, then 24/7 Video Visit. For children under 13, a parent or guardian must schedule on their behalf. During your appointment, you will be given clear instructions on what to do next and any prescriptions ordered will be electronically sent to the pharmacy of your choice.
If you need more immediate attention, you can also access Virtual Urgent Care at one of our Hendrick Urgent Care locations in Abilene or Bronwood. However, this service is not intended to replace your primary care physician, so we encourage you to continue seeing your doctor for routine in-person care.
Hendrick Urgent Care is a convenient, affordable and safe option for minor health problems that aren’t severe enough for a trip to the emergency room. The best part is that your virtual urgent care appointment may be covered by your insurance, depending on your specific plan and state requirements. We accept most major health plans, and our telemedicine services are even eligible for Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account reimbursement. You can download the MyChart app or use our website to log in and access your healthcare on your terms – anytime, anywhere.
Follow-up
Virtual care visits allow for easy follow-up care when patients need it most. A recent study published in Health Affairs found that patients who had an on-demand virtual visit for upper respiratory infection were slightly more likely to receive additional follow-up care than patients with similar symptoms who went to a clinic in person. This further supports the efficiency and effectiveness of virtual care during a pandemic.
For example, an ER physician established a virtual clinic to follow-up on imaging study and laboratory test results for up to nine patients daily who returned to the Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH) ER with a Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) of 3, 4 or 5 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The clinic operated for 2 hours each day and a physician contacted these patients by telephone to discuss their telehealth appointment, provide test results and ensure they are not clinically deteriorating at home. The telehealth clinic was extremely popular with both patients and physicians. A patient survey revealed that 75% of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with the telephone follow-up service as a result of their emergency department (ED) virtual care visit, and 80% of physician respondents felt that they would like to continue providing this service.
After your telehealth visit, the doctor will provide you with clear instructions and any needed recommendations. This includes a written prescription if necessary. The physician will also share the information with your regular doctor if you have a shared medical record. The records can be accessed through your patient portal and printed for your own records or faxed directly to your regular doctor’s office through secure messaging.
If you need to get a prescription filled after your virtual urgent care visit, simply send us your request using the link provided by your physician. Then, you can pick up your medication at the pharmacy of your choice. Please remember to bring your prescription ID card or a copy of your online receipt. This will help to speed up the process. If you have children who will be utilizing virtual visits, you must first obtain proxy access to their MyChart account. This can be done by logging in to your MyChart account, clicking on the Menu tab, then 24/7 Video Visit and following the instructions based on the child’s age.
